Lahore: The accused who stole the copper wires from the four sockets of the AC coach of Mult Express from Faisalabad to Karachi was caught red-handed along with the wire and tools by the carriage staff.
As the police constables did not have handcuffs, the hands of the accused also had to be tied by the RTL staff with a rope.
In another incident, a carriage cleaner was caught carrying metal dust bins and other materials from the Rawalpindi rail car.
Former DIG Operations Shahzad Akbar issued written orders to all SPs four years ago to stop theft of copper wires from coaches.
CEO Railway Aamir Baloch said that monitoring will be tightened to prevent material theft, action will also be taken against the police personnel guilty of negligence.
