The New York Times notes that while Meta has integrated artificial intelligence into its apps in other ways, this is its biggest rollout of a product that includes powerful AI technology.

According to the report, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg detailed in a video statement that the assistant can answer questions, create animations and even create images.

“We believe MetaAI is now the smartest AI assistant you can use independently,” he said.

MetaAI is built on the company’s latest major language model called MetaLlama III. Meta’s AI tool competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google, but Meta also has partnerships with Google and Microsoft.
