Bishkek calms after clashes between student groups

Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan says that foreign media is spreading false information.

The situation in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, is now calm after clashes between student groups last night.

According to local media, 2,700 police personnel are deployed to maintain law and order in Bishkek, and 1,000 volunteer force personnel are also patrolling the city.

The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry says the overnight protest against foreign students ended this morning, with Hollis clearing the area after an agreement was reached with the protesters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further says that foreign media is spreading false information, authentic information should be taken only from the Kyrgyz authorities.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, 29 people have been injured in student riots.

The police say that 4 Egyptian nationals have been detained in connection with the brawl that took place on May 13 at the Talaba hostel in Bishkek.
