Bishkek: Hassan Zaigham, Pakistan’s ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, has said that 14 students, including one Pakistani, were injured in attacks on six hostels in Bishkek, appealing to the Pakistani community not to believe social media reports.

The ambassador has said in his video statement on the situation in Kyrgyzstan that last night local people have attacked at least six hostels of foreign students. The Kyrgyz government has said that 14 foreign students were injured in the attacks. A Pakistani student Shahzeb is also involved who is undergoing treatment in the hospital and on the instructions of the Prime Minister today met the student whose condition is out of danger.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar have given special instructions to the embassy to provide all possible facilities to Pakistani citizens while the Kyrgyz government has assured our embassy that foreign students will be safe. The police have been alerted, the Kyrgyz police have started an investigation and have arrested some suspects.

The ambassador said that the Kyrgyz government has instructed all foreign students to stay in the hostels and has also asked them not to share content on social media without verification.

The ambassador said that more than 500 phone calls have been received on the emergency number of the embassy so far, it has made it possible for ten people to contact their families who were not in contact.
