A travelogue is actually a travel narrative in which the travelogue during or at the end of the trip presents his travel conditions, experiences, observations, conditions and often heart events in such a way that not only awakens the reader’s desire to know about the foreigner. Rather, the reader feels himself in this journey.

That is, in the travelogue, the details of the journey are described in such a way that the travelogue presents the details of what he sees during the journey in the travelogue. This description includes many topics such as geographical location, historical places, culture, customs, social and political conditions, literary and cultural activities. , divided into investigative travelogues.

Historically, we see that humans have been traveling for trade, acquiring knowledge, spreading religion, seeking livelihood, and visiting holy places. On this basis, the tradition of narrative journeys was common in Urdu literature. After the arrival of the British in India, the tradition of Safarnama was born. Avoiding traditional tales, stories, events based on facts, experiences, observations and visual scenes started being mentioned. Thus, travelogues gained special importance in non-fiction literature.

In the present era travelogue has become a regular part of literature. Along with other genres, there is a large number of travelogues in Urdu literature and Safarnama is playing an important role in the development of knowledge. Now the question is, how to write a successful travelogue?

The first condition of writing a travelogue is that the travelogue has actually traveled. Like a table story, a table travelogue cannot be written with a map and a few historical and social books in front of it. Observations are most important in travelogue. For this, it is necessary that the sense of observation of the travel writer is very sharp. It is important to have the research of a researcher in a travel writer, to avoid making opinions about the whole nation by personally observing the ways, morals and habits of a few people, whatever he brings to writing after the complete research.

In a travelogue, perspective with observations is very important, that is, a travelogue should have the distinguishing feature that he should be free from his ideas and concepts and write down his experiences with independent thinking. If the travel writer has a keen eye for history and also studies, he can create an informative and interesting travel book by bringing his journey into historical and cultural grasp.

A travel writer has to interact with people to gain knowledge, so he/she needs to be good at communication and conversation. For a travel writer, it is important that his study in literature is also extensive. Only in this case, he can bring the writing in the literary style, if the travelogue is devoid of literary style, then it is only a travelogue, the travelogue will not count at all.

These are all qualities that a successful travel writer should have. Only then can he create a successful travelogue. Now the question is, what qualities should a successful travelogue have? The quality of a good travelogue should be that the reader joins the journey along with the travelogue. While reading, the reader should feel that he is not reading a travel story, but he is also traveling and seeing all the scenes with his own eyes.

The imagery should be so complete and lively that the correct and true picture of every scene comes before the eyes. Along with this, there should be an element of familiarity i.e. whatever is written should be done with truth. The style should be interesting so that the reader will read attentively. Conciseness and brevity are also important for a travelogue. Unnecessary detail makes a travelogue cumbersome and uninteresting.

In a good travelogue, history, civilization and culture seem to go hand in hand. Therefore, historical events and geographical statistics should not be presented in the travelogue, but the geographical situation and historical events as well as the mysterious nature of natural scenes should be fully revealed.

Good style and eloquent expression of impressions and observations are essential for a good travelogue. Attempting unnecessary colorful narration to embellish the travelogue should be avoided. This unnecessary effort undermines the itinerary.

The travelogue should be free of irrelevant events, i.e. the events that highlight the overall and collective impression should also be written. Some travel writers write extraordinary details of everything from packing suitcases to airport departure from another country’s airport to staying at a hotel and everything that happens in between. The difference between the travelogue and the diary of these travel writers should be noticed. The reader is not interested in who visited the travel writer at the hotel, who took him to his house and what food he served him, it must be avoided.

Giving too much importance to oneself and unnecessarily insisting on one’s ideas also undermines the journey and must be avoided. Now the question is, why is it important to study travelogue?

Travelogues, because they describe what happened with the eyes, are not only reliable but also interesting and lead to increase in information. Through travelogues, one gets to see a vivid picture of knowing civilization, society and history, it opens new windows of the mind and elevates ideas.

Relieves stress, anxiety, depression, brings new experiences, boosts self-confidence.

Safarnama covers most aspects of scientific topics in its scope. Therefore, its study leads to increase in cognitive efficiency and capacity.
