IMF agrees on terms, staff-level agreement likely in two weeks

Islamabad: There has been significant progress in the ongoing virtual talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the new program where the international organization has given a green signal for the next program and the staff agreement is likely to be finalized in the next two weeks.

Finance Ministry sources say that in the ongoing virtual meeting with the IMF, almost all the goals and conditions regarding the new program have been agreed upon.

He said that in the three-day-long virtual negotiations, there was a detailed discussion on the program size, duration and other aspects of the agreement, after which the IMF has given a green signal for the new loan program.

Sources said that Pakistan was asked by the IMF to fulfill some goals and conditions before July 10 and Pakistan has achieved all these goals. Tough decisions have been made.

He said that the federal government’s initiatives include increasing the prices of electricity and gas along with the budget.
