The Prime Minister gave in-principle approval for the restructuring of the electricity transmission system

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave in-principle approval to the restructuring of the electricity transmission system, especially the NTDC.

According to details, the third and final round of the high-level meeting on the review of power sector reforms took place, recommendations were made regarding privatization and outsourcing of power distribution companies.

In the meeting presided over by the Prime Minister, major decisions were taken regarding the transmission system and distribution companies. The Prime Minister established a committee to ensure the implementation of reforms and restructuring.

A cell has been set up in the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure the implementation of power sector reforms, a report was also sought on the plan to convert high power consumption fans into low power consumption fans.

A comprehensive plan to provide low power consumption fans to low income consumers was also called for. The Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive plan to supply electricity at low rates to the industrial sector should be presented.

Shahbaz Sharif said that he will preside over the review meeting on the implementation of reforms in the power sector every month. Federal Ministers Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Ahad Khan Cheema and others also participated in this meeting.
