Inauguration of China’s first Hangur class submarine to be developed for Pakistan

Rawalpindi: The inaugural ceremony of Pakistan’s first Hungura-class submarine was held in China where Pakistan Navy Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and other officials were also present.

According to a statement released by the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the inauguration ceremony of the submarine was held at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. Shuangliu Base in China. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf was the chief guest of the ceremony.

The ISPR said that the project will add a new dimension to Pakistan-China friendship, with the government of Pakistan signing an agreement to acquire 8 Hangur class submarines during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan.

The statement said that under the contract, 4 submarines will be manufactured in China and the other 4 will be manufactured at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited in Pakistan.

According to the ISPR, these submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors that will be able to target long-range targets.
