Executive interference in judicial affairs will not be tolerated under any circumstances, Chief Justice

Islamabad: On the issue of judges of Islamabad High Court, the Chief Justice has taken a blunt stand and said that any kind of interference by the executive in judicial affairs will not be tolerated and the independence of the judiciary will not be compromised in any way.

In a statement issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it is stated that the Chief Justice of Pakistan met the judges who wrote the letter and heard their concerns.

It is stated in the statement that the letter of 6 judges of Islamabad High Court was received by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faiz Isa on April 25, 2024, after which the Chief Justice called a meeting of all the judges who wrote the letter and met them individually. Considering the seriousness of the allegations made in the letter, a meeting was convened after Iftar at the residence of the Chief Justice of Pakistan on March 26, in which the judges of the Islamabad High Court participated. The meeting lasted for two and a half hours.

After that, the Chief Justice also met the Attorney General, Minister of Law and Justice, Senior Judge and the delegation of the Supreme Court Bar Association. These judges are senior judges of the Bar Council and are based in Islamabad.

According to the statement, the Prime Minister assured the Chief Justice of Pakistan in today’s meeting that he will take all measures to ensure the independence of the judiciary, while necessary legislation will also be passed along with instructions to the relevant departments.
