Islamabad: There is a fear of water crisis in summer due to which there is a fear of water shortfall of up to 25% in April and May.

Ursa Authority has called an advisory committee meeting on April 2 on the availability and distribution of water to the provinces. The Ursa Advisory Committee meeting will be chaired by Chairman Ursa in which the four provincial ministers of irrigation, WAPDA and Meteorological Department officials will participate.

According to sources, the water crisis is expected to intensify in June, if there is no rain in June, the water storage in Tarbela and Mangala will be exhausted. By December and mid-January, snowfall is extremely low, with mid-January and February snow melting.

The storage of water in Tarbela dam is 3 lakh and Mangla is 1 lakh acre feet, the flow of water in the rivers is 70 thousand cusecs and the discharge of water from the dams is 95 thousand cusecs. Despite the increase in temperature, the flow of water in river Chenab is very low, the flow of water in river Chenab at Marala is 14 thousand cusecs.

The advisory committee meeting will estimate the availability and distribution of water in the rivers, consider the problems in water reservoirs due to the construction of Tarbela Plan Five.
