New York: Google has fired 28 employees who participated in sit-ins against a cloud computing deal with the Israeli government.

According to the global news agency, the statement issued by the spokesperson of Google said that these 28 employees obstructed the work of other employees and prevented access to facilities, which is a clear violation of our policies.

A Google spokesperson added that it would continue to investigate the protests on Tuesday. The employees occupied the office of Google Cloud Chief Executive Thomas Koren in Sunnyvale.

Google employees affiliated with No Tech For Apartheid, a group that organizes sit-ins against Israel, said in a statement that the layoffs were a clear example of retaliation.

In their statement, the fired employees added that Google’s policy and rules give employees the right to peaceful protest. A few employees who did not participate in the protest were also fired.

Google workers have the right to peacefully protest our terms and conditions of employment.” He added that some of the Google employees who were fired had not participated in the sit-ins.

It should be remembered that in 2021 the Nimbus agreement was signed under which Google was supposed to provide cloud software for various Israeli ministries, but Google employees protested the provision of this technology to the Israeli army involved in genocide.
