Governor’s demand to elect senators uncontested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Governor House is here for reconciliation politics, Haji Ghulam Ali

Peshawar: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali demanded to elect senators uncontested in the province.

Addressing the ceremony of providing Ramadan package at the Governor House, Haji Ghulam Ali said that like Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan, senators should be elected unopposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Governor House is present for reconciliation politics.

He said that the federal government is preparing a comprehensive plan for a new strategy against terrorists.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the final list of candidates for the Senate elections scheduled on April 2, according to which 18 candidates have been elected unopposed and voting will be held on 30 seats. These include 7 general seats of Punjab, 7 general seats of Balochistan, 2 women seats and 2 technocrat and ulama seats.

In the elections, 7 general, 2 women and 2 technocrats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also compete.

However, the Election Commission has made the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa subject to the oath of the elected members of the assembly on specific seats. The Election Commission has directed that if the Speaker of the KPK Assembly does not administer oath to the newly elected members on specific seats, the Senate elections will be postponed to the extent of the province.
