Microsoft has appointed Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleiman as CEO of its new AI division

Microsoft What is fixed? Deep Mind Co-founder Mustafa Sulaiman hired several of his employees to head a new consumer AI unit. Inflection AI startup, looking to defend its lead against growing competition from Google.

Sulaiman will be the CEO of the unit. Microsoft AIthe company said Tuesday, bringing its customers’ AI efforts under the same roof as its own copilot A chatbot and the new Bing browser that uses the technology.

Copilot is built using technology from ChatGPT-maker. Open AIis the lynchpin of Microsoft’s efforts to generate revenue from its AI efforts and can write emails, summarize documents and create presentations.

“This infusion of new talent will enable us to accelerate once again,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a blog post.

“As part of this transition, Mikhail Parkhin and his entire team, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge; and Misha Blanco and the GenAI team will move to report to Mustafa,” he said.

It comes as Microsoft is partnering with other startups, including France’s Mistral AI, amid increased regulatory scrutiny of its tie-up with OpenAI.

Nadella said on Tuesday that Microsoft is “very committed” to its OpenAI partnership.

Karen Simonian, who co-founded Inflection AI with Solomon and Microsoft board member Reid Hoffman, will join as chief scientist.

Meanwhile, Alphabet’s Google unit is ramping up its AI efforts. Bloomberg News reported Monday that Apple is in talks to build Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence engine into the iPhone.

Inflection AI has emerged as one of the most high-flying names in the genAI race after raising $1.3 billion (roughly Rs. 10,802 crore) from Microsoft. Nvidia Last June at a valuation of $4 billion (about Rs 33,240 crore) in a mix of cash and cloud credit.

The startup behind chatbot P said on Tuesday that Sean White, the former head of research and development at Mozilla, will be its new CEO and that it is pivoting to offer a model to commercial users rather than focusing on consumers.

It also said that its Inflection-2.5 will be available on Microsoft Azure.
