New Delhi: Police in India’s capital arrested dozens of activists who were marching to protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

According to the report of news agency Reuters, against the arrest of the Chief Minister of New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, his workers tried to march towards Modi’s residence to protest there, but they were stopped by the police at this place, 5 km away. Given where they were gathering for the march.

Footage aired on TV showed hundreds of protesters sitting on the ground and chanting slogans as police tried to arrest them and take them away.

On the other hand, police in the Indian capital used water cannons to disperse Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who tried to march towards the Delhi Secretariat demanding Kejriwal’s resignation.

BJP state president Virendra Sichdeva told news agency ANI that the Chief Minister of Delhi is corrupt and dishonest, he should resign.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party leaders said that Arvind Kejriwal will not resign and the protest will continue till his release.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai told reporters that I want to tell the federal government that this fight will not stop at this point because your police is repressing and this voice is reaching the entire nation.

It should be noted that Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in power in New Delhi for the last 10 years, was arrested last week on charges of financial irregularities in the liquor policy, while the general elections in India are starting from next month.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said in a statement on social media website X that due to the protests, several metro stations in the city have been temporarily closed for security reasons.

Delhi Police has issued a notice that the traffic flow may be affected due to the protest regarding law and order in the city.

The Aam Aadmi Party is part of the alliance of opposition parties in India that formed against the BJP last year.

The opposition alliance is planning a joint protest against Kejriwal’s arrest on March 31 and is expecting the alliance to regroup after failing to field a joint candidate in the elections against the BJP.
