Spontaneous notice case regarding interference in Judiciary, Karachi Bar submitted suggestions

In the case of automatic notices related to interference in the judiciary, the Karachi Bar submitted suggestions to the Supreme Court.

According to the proposal of the Karachi Bar, the judges should be obliged to inform the competent authority within 7 days of any attempt of interference, the competent authority should also be obliged to provide full protection to the reporting judges.

Due to insecurity, many judges do not report such incidents to the competent authorities, whether the intervention is from state institutions, the judiciary itself or the private sector.

The Karachi Bar said that apart from close relatives, judges should avoid meeting with government officials and intelligence representatives.

Action should be taken against judges who make false statements regarding interference, Supreme Court and High Courts should set up a special cell to report interference, the discretionary powers of the Chief Justices of High Courts should also be reviewed.

The Karachi Bar also said in the proposal that it is not right for the chief justice to have the power to form benches and assign cases, the decision to form benches and assign cases in the high courts should be made by a 3-member committee of judges. Legislation should be directed regarding the agencies, the Supreme Court should conduct an independent inquiry into the letter of 6 judges.
