Islamabad: Negotiations between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have started in the Ministry of Finance.

According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, negotiations regarding a new loan program are going on between Pakistan and the IMF, which will continue for about 2 weeks. An introductory session was held between the delegations of Pakistan and IMF at the Ministry of Finance.

Pakistan’s economic team is led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb while the IMF delegation is led by Mission Chief Nathan Porter. In addition to determining the size and duration of the new loan, consultations will also be held on the budget for the new financial year. Pakistan is hoping for a bailout package of more than $6 billion from the IMF.

According to sources, a working paper has been prepared for the Extended Fund Facility loan program from the IMF.
