Islamabad: The inquiry committee set up by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif blamed the failure of the track and trace system introduced for tax on former chairman FBR Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed and project director Tariq Hussain Sheikh.

According to the details, the inquiry committee has investigated the defects and failures in the track and trace system project of Rs. Former Chairman FBR and Project Director have been declared responsible.

In the light of the inquiry committee’s report, disciplinary action will be taken against the said officers and punishments will be given as per law. According to sources, the inquiry committee formed by the Prime Minister under the chairmanship of Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal has completed its report and submitted it to the government.

The committee, while giving a briefing in the federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday, said that the former chairman FBR Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed and the then project director Tariq Hussain are responsible for the failure and defects of the track and trace system.

Sources say that now disciplinary action will be taken against these officers according to the law. A briefing has been given by the inquiry committee in the federal cabinet meeting about the report, in which it has been stated that all the FBR has been informed about the project. Relevant documents have been obtained and scrutinized and agreements with companies to make the project operational have also been scrutinized.

It was informed in the briefing that after a detailed review of all aspects, the responsibles have been determined on the basis of solid evidence.

It should be noted that a four-member committee headed by the Finance Secretary was set up to determine the culprits for the failure of the track and trace system, which examined the documents obtained from the FBR and determined the culprits.

The members of the committee included Member Technology CDA Nauman Khalid, CEO National Information Technology Board Babar Najeeb Bhatti and Additional Secretary Law and Justice Owais Nauman Kundi.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had set up a four-member committee under the chairmanship of the finance secretary to investigate the irregularities in the 25 billion track and trace system during Imran Khan’s tenure. This was the fourth committee on track and trace system.

Earlier, former Governor State Bank Tariq Bajwa had also conducted an investigation, which did not yield any results, while Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had also conducted two inquiries, but they were also inconclusive.
