The Ministry of Industries and Production recommended to import urea fertilizer

Islamabad: It has been recommended to import urea fertilizer by the Ministry of Industry and Production.

In order to stabilize the price and supply of urea fertilizer, the Fertilizer Review Committee of the Ministry of Industries and Production has taken a major decision and recommended importing urea fertilizer for the Kharif season.

In this regard, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer has said that 2 lakh metric tons of urea fertilizer should be imported immediately to avoid shortage. Demand for urea fertilizer in Kharif season is 3.6% higher than last year. The purpose of import is to ensure food security in the country.

He said that the import will increase the productivity of Pakistan’s farmers. Timely import of urea fertilizer will bring down the price significantly and with the stabilization of domestic urea market, farmers will have uninterrupted availability of urea fertilizer in Kharif season.

The federal minister said that all the local urea fertilizer plants will also remain active with full capacity. The government is ensuring gas supply to the fertilizer industry for the benefit of farmers.

According to the spokesman, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will take the final decision regarding the import of urea fertilizer in the next meeting.
