A rare Persian leopard was spotted in Nani Mandir area of Balochistan

Karachi: A Persian leopard was spotted after a long time in the Nani Mandir area near Hangul National Park in Balochistan.

The footage of a Prussian leopard roaming on the Singlakh rocks of Hangul National Park, north of Agur in Balochistan, has come to the fore.

In the above video, a pilgrim who was going to worship at Nani Mandir filmed the movement of the Prussian Leopard (Persian Leopard) in the mountain range in front of the temple with his mobile phone.

Technical Adviser WWF (Pakistan) Muhammad Moazzam Khan says that the Prussian Leopard has been confirmed by Chief Conservator Wildlife Balochistan Sharifuddin Baloch.

He says that the Persian leopard is locally known as Phuling, whose population is present in Hangul National Park, apart from Balochistan, the leopard of this species is also found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

According to Muazzam Khan, the number of leopards of this breed has decreased to 1200 worldwide, of which about 800 are in Iran, while this number is around 200 in Pakistan. In addition, the Prussian leopard is also found in Turkey. .

He said that due to the decrease in their number, there was a fear that it might face extinction. This species of leopard is included in the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

He further says that apart from Kirthar National Park, Persian leopards are also found near Hub River, there is a dire need to create awareness among people about this animal, this magnificent animal is rarely seen in these areas now.

He said that the Persian leopard used to be found in almost a large part of Balochistan, especially in the coastal areas, but due to the great reduction in its hunting and food in the mountain wild goat, aryal, sheep and chinkara, the population of this species of leopard is gradually decreasing.
