Abuja: A woman in Nigeria is facing seven years in prison for simply posting a negative online post about a can of tomato puree.

According to media reports, Chioma Okoli, a 39-year-old woman, took to Facebook to share her opinion about a box of tomato puree she had recently bought, claiming it had too much sugar.

He also sought confirmation of his opinion from his friends and followers. Chioma’s simple post unexpectedly went viral on social media, garnering over 3,000 comments. Among the commenters was a woman who claimed to be the sister of the founder of Eresco Foods Ltd., the company that made the discontinued tomato puree.

The company asked Chioma to stop giving negative feedback about their product and buy something else instead, whereupon the woman began voicing her opinion even more loudly, telling the alleged sister of the company’s founder. That he should ask his brother to stop forcing his products on people.

However, an online dispute with the company cost Chioma dearly and he was arrested a few days later. He was charged with cybercrime for which he could face seven years in prison.
