Essex: A new laboratory has been set up at a UK university to grow climate-resistant plants to ensure future food security.

Built at the University of Essex, the £3 million facility’s indoor arena can be adapted to any environment in the world and has suits that can mimic a warming world. While researchers can control the amount of carbon dioxide and temperature levels in these parts.

The facility adopts vertical farming and computerized plant scanning technology to monitor plant growth.

In the vertical farming method, crops are grown in layers from bottom to top.

The Smart Technology Experimental Plant Suite (STEPS) will conduct research in artificial intelligence and robotics that will help develop new ideas, technologies and strategies for predicting agriculture and natural resources. How the world is changing
