Torrential rains in Tanzania; 155 people died due to floods and landslides

At least 155 people have died in floods and landslides in Tanzania following torrential rains.

According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’, the Prime Minister of Tanzania confirmed that 155 people, including children, elderly and women, have died in various incidents due to the recent rains in the country.

It should be noted that Tanzania and other countries in East Africa are extremely vulnerable to climate change and are experiencing more than normal rainfall during the current rainy season. Dozens of deaths have also been reported in Kenya.

According to the authorities, more than 51 thousand houses and more than 2 lakh people have been affected by the rains, in which 155 deaths and 236 injuries have occurred.

Also, parliament in Tanzania’s capital Dodoma was told that heavy El Nino rains accompanied by strong winds, floods and landslides have caused considerable damage in various parts of the country.
