[Update] Many users face UPI transaction failures due to technical glitches of some banks

Update at 10 am IST, 7 February 2024: UPI services have been restored, and we have independently verified that all the banks mentioned in the story below are seeing UPI-related payments without issue.

Several users took to X (formerly Twitter) claiming that UPI transactions were not going through. In a tweet, the National Payments Corporation of India or NPCI, confirmed that some banks faced outages, leading to UPI transaction failure.

“The inconvenience caused on UPI connectivity is regretted as some banks are facing some internal technical issues. NPCI systems are working fine and we are working with these banks to ensure quick resolution.” NPCI wrote On X

Downdetector, a website that tracks real-time service outages, showed several banks suffering outages, including HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, SBI, Kotak and Bank of India. The outage tracker website also showed some issues with Google Pay services. However, the company clarified That this is sometimes due to heavy traffic on the bank servers.

At the time of writing this post, HDFC Bank confirmed in a tweet on X that the transaction is underway. However, the company acknowledged that the outage affected services.

We encountered some difficulties on UPI which seems to be part of a larger ecosystem. We are now back in operations and apologize for any inconvenience.

The Gadgets 360 team also tried using UPI payment using HDFC Bank, SBI, and Kotak Bank accounts but faced issues. We expect the technical glitch to be resolved within a few hours, as claimed by NPCI.
