Jamaat-e-Islami is not a political party in the popular sense, it is an Islamic movement whose purpose according to its constitution is very different from other political parties. The slogan of Jamaat-e-Islami in the 1970 elections was:

‘God’s country
Sharia law. And
The government belongs to the good servants of Allah.’

According to Jamaat-e-Islami, who were the good servants of Allah? The answer to this question is essential to understanding the Jamaat. When Jamaat-e-Islami decided to become a part of the political process, its method was not that like other political parties, the candidates would go to seek votes from the people, but it was that we should raise the standards of individuals and society by training them. As a result of this, the country of Allah will automatically go to the custody of the good servants of Allah who will run the government in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

In 1957, in the historical meeting of the Jamaat at Machhigoth near Bahawalpur, the Jamaat changed its strategy and decided to reject idealism and participate in the direct election process, even then any member of the Jamaat could become a candidate. And he did not go to the candidate himself to take votes. The Jamaat used to run the election campaign itself for the candidate it nominated.

After this incident, local body elections were held in Karachi and the Jamaat fielded 19 candidates. 17 of them won. It was the first time in this election that people voted for candidates whom they did not even know because of their reputation. This was also a kind of idealism. That time has passed, but even today Jamaat-e-Islami candidates do not ask for votes like ordinary political workers. Osama Razi has recently been appointed as the central vice-emir of the Jamaat. It is possible to disagree with many aspects of his personality, but in the past he has always shown selflessness and selflessness for the Jamiat and now the Jamaat.

The third reason for this was the commitment of the founder Jamaat-e-Islami for democracy, who always united for this purpose beyond ideological divisions.

This situation continued till 1977, but after 1985, the vote bank of the party gradually decreased. Why did this happen? If this happens, it can be expected that Jamaat-e-Islami will be successful in restoring its confidence and reputation, but if the party’s political approach in the eyes of the public is to remain that of an enthusiastic sympathizer of PTI, then it will not change. Popularity will increase and tension will not decrease.

It is a strange coincidence that it was April of 2023 when Sirajul Haque was mobilized for reconciliation between the ruling PDM and the PTI which had lost power due to the no-confidence motion, but the attitude of the PTI did to him what Maulana Fazal did to him. After the meetings with Ur Rehman, now PTI and its leaders sided with him. Now it is April 2024 and Hafiz Naeemur Rahman is again in the field with this knowledge.

It is not necessary that Jamaat-e-Islami should become an ally of Muslim League-N, but it is important that whatever position it takes, it should be in accordance with the requirements of justice, which will ensure the rule of democracy and the constitution in the country and not sabotage the efforts of economic recovery. And never create the impression that Jamaat-e-Islami is weak for the disloyal one who does not know what loyalty is.
