Ban on plastic bags announced in Punjab from June 5

A ban on the use of plastic bags has been announced across Punjab from June 5.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister of Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb, in which she said that the Chief Minister of Punjab has given approval to ban plastic bags.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22 and the “No Plastic” campaign will be launched. Will ensure complete ban on production, delivery and use of plastic bags. People should not use plastic bags to protect themselves from cancer.

He appealed to use clothes and paper bags and said that all people including shopkeepers should support the campaign of not using plastic bags, do not use plastic items and utensils in homes.

He further said that improving the environment is a matter of life and death for all of us.

It was decided in the meeting that the concerned authorities will ensure the ban on the use of plastic bags, special lectures and training workshops will be held for students and educational institutions.

It was also decided in the meeting that the harm caused by plastic to human health will be made aware.
