Do astronauts get headaches too?

Leiden: Astronauts may experience migraines and other types of headaches during long spaceflights, a new study has found.

According to media reports, a study published in the journal ‘Neurology’ has shown that astronauts who never complain of headaches can suffer from migraines and headaches during more than 10 days in space.

Study author Dr. Van Oosterhout of Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands said changes in gravity during space travel affect many body functions, including the brain.

He said that the vestibular system in the brain, which controls balance and orientation, has to face a conflict between the signals received on Earth and the signals received now in zero gravity, after which it itself Adapts to these situations.

This conflict of signals leads to motion sickness in the first week, with headache being the most common symptom. “Our study shows that headaches are also associated with increased intracranial pressure,” added Dr.
