New Delhi: Voting is underway in India for the second of the seven phases of the world’s biggest election, in which voting will take place in 88 constituencies across 12 states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Elections are going on for 543 seats of the lower house of India, the Lok Sabha. Today, 1,202 candidates are contesting on 88 constituencies in 12 states including Kerala, parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

In today’s elections, many old rivals are competing, apart from politicians, there are also showbiz personalities. Rahul Gandhi, Hema Malani and Shashi Tharoor are once again trying their luck. In one constituency, the election was postponed due to the death of a candidate.

Votes are being cast for 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka and 13 in Rajasthan, 13 in Rajasthan, eight in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 7 in Assam and Bihar, 3 in Bengal. Polling will be held. Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura will have one seat each.

The first phase of the election was completed on April 19 in which 16.6 million voters from 102 constituencies in 21 states and territories got a chance to vote. These areas ranged from the southern state of Tamil Nadu to the border state of Arunachal Pradesh near China.

It should be remembered that one billion voters are registered in India for the biggest elections in the world. The series of 7 phases of elections will end on June 1 and the Lok Sabha results will be announced on June 4.

Modi, with the dream of becoming the Prime Minister for the third time in a row, has openly come down on anti-Muslim hostility. They are doing hate politics to support the sentimental Hindu voters and targeting minorities especially Muslims.

Workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party attacked and vandalized election camps of opposition parties in several constituencies. Attempts were also made to occupy the polling stations. The opposition has accused the government of rigging, mismanagement and corruption.
