Exposure to toxic metals in regular vapers

London: A new study has found that teenagers who regularly vape may be exposed to toxic metals that could potentially damage the developing brain or organs.

Sweet e-cigarette flavors pose additional risks, according to researchers.

US researchers used responses from US youth aged 13 to 17 years from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study for the study, while the study, published in the journal Tobacco Control, looked at vaping. About 200 youths were included.

Among these youth, 81 regularly, 61 occasionally, and 45 intermittently vaped.

E-cigarette use was determined by the mean number of puffs per day, with regular users having 27 puffs per day, intermittent vapers 7.9, and occasional e-cigarette smokers 0.9 puffs per day.

Later, the urine of these individuals was examined for trace metals such as lead, uranium and cadmium.

Regular vapers were found to have higher levels of uranium than occasional vapers.
