First phase of general elections, polling continues

Polling for the first phase of the 2024 general elections in India is underway.

According to Indian media, the polling has started at 7 am which will continue till 6 pm.

According to Indian media, in the first election phase of 7 phases, votes are being cast on 102 parliamentary seats administered by the Center and 21 states of India.

16.63 crore voters will elect 1605 candidates in the first phase of the elections.

These elections will be held in 7 phases till June 1, the results of which will be announced on June 4. The most important candidate of these elections is being declared as the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

If Modi wins the elections, he will be the second Prime Minister of India to be elected for the third consecutive term, before him Jawaharlal Nehru was the only Indian Prime Minister who reached this position for 3 consecutive terms.

Rahul Gandhi is its main candidate from the main opposition party Congress.

According to foreign news agencies, the ruling party BJP has the support of the majority of Hindus in the country.

Two dozen opposition parties have formed a political alliance called ‘India’ to take on Narendra Modi.

It should be noted that for government formation in India, success in 272 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats is necessary.

The BJP has set a target of winning 370 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, which is much higher than in 2019, while the NDA has set a target of 400 seats.

According to the Election Commission, the number of registered voters in the country is 97 crore.

Elections are held every 5 years in India, which is also considered as the biggest election campaign in the world.
