“Gaza…Historical Background” – Express Urdu

The Israeli aggression on Gaza has been the center of attention of the media around the world. On the one hand, Western countries talk about establishing peace in the Middle East and on the other hand, they are openly supporting Israel. The United Nations is also passing resolutions according to double standards, but in practice it has become a club of big powers.

Thousands of Palestinians have been martyred and injured in Gaza. Demonstrations against Israel are also taking place all over the world, but it is a pity that the leadership of the Islamic world, despite all its resources, could not take any practical measures to stop Western colonialism, American aggression and Israeli brutality.

The Organization of Islamic Conference has also become a non-functional body. This is a situation on which much is being written. Today, some facts about Gaza City and its historical background are at the service of the readers.

The ancient and historical city of Gaza is located on the narrow coastal strip of the Mediterranean Sea on the border of Israel and Egypt. Since ancient times, Gaza has been an important trade route between North Africa, Arab countries and Europe. Gaza is an Arabic word meaning “strong”. In ancient Egypt, Gaza was called the “City of Rewards”.

During the time of Hazrat Abu Bakr, Gaza was included in the Islamic Empire. Even during the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, Gaza had an important administrative position in the Islamic Empire. Alexander the Great also occupied Gaza for five years.

The city of Gaza is divided into two parts and its population is about 480,000. One part is called the Christian quarter where there are more Christians and the other part is called the Muslim quarter where there is a Muslim majority. There are seven historical gates in Gaza City, which are Bab Al-Aqsan, Bab Daram, Bab Bahar, Bab Marnas, Bab Baladiya, Bab Khalil and Bab al-Mantar.

Hazrat Muhammad Ibn Idris al-Shafi, the founder of Shafi’i jurisprudence, was born in Gaza. During the reign of Hazrat Umar, a grand mosque was built in Gaza, which was named Masjid Umar. During the Crusades, Christians took control of Gaza from the Fatimid rulers. got The Christians made this great mosque a church. In 1191, Sultan Saladin Ayyubi defeated the Christians and conquered Gaza.

Gaza city was repeatedly destroyed due to many wars, many terrible earthquakes also happened here. In 1224, the city of Gaza was completely destroyed by a severe earthquake and then rebuilt. Five years after the earthquake, Halaku Khan conquered it. Later, the city was rebuilt. A terrible earthquake occurred here in 1903 and 1914. In 1917, during the First World War, the Ottoman Turks occupied Gaza.

After World War II, the League of Nations gave Gaza under British rule. Until 1948, this area remained under British rule. In 1949, Gaza was placed under Egyptian rule. In 1967, Israel occupied Gaza. In 1979, an agreement between Israel and Egypt recognized the territory’s limited autonomy. In September 1993, the Oslo Accords between Israel and the PLO made it part of Palestine. The late Yasser Arafat declared Gaza as his provincial capital. Here, Hamas won a surprising victory in the 2006 elections.

This success of Hamas in Gaza did not show an eye to Israel and the Western world. From the beginning, they were trying to make an excuse to attack Gaza and destroy the power of Hamas. Israel alleges that Hamas is receiving weapons through underground tunnels between Gaza and Egypt and has taken steps to cut off those tunnels, despite the fact that Israel has given the Palestinian Authority and the Gaza Strip And has repeated its history by attacking the sovereign.

It is no longer a secret that the United States and Great Britain are gradually pursuing a strategy for the creation of a greater Israel that would increase Israel’s territory and make Israel the sole military power in the Middle East. can be dominated as
