Investigation of wheat import scam, former caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar called today

Islamabad: Former caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar was summoned today in connection with the investigation of the wheat import scandal.

The investigation into the wheat import scandal is ongoing, the meeting of the committee set up to investigate the wheat crisis was held on Saturday. Different options are under consideration before the investigation committee. It is being considered. There is a possibility that the people of the supervisory period will be called.

The caretaker prime minister’s sources say that no formal notice of summons has been received yet. The committee consists of 4 members and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has instructed the committee to conduct an investigation and submit a report within four days.

According to the sources, a questionnaire can also be sent to the caretaker prime minister and ministers regarding the investigations in which they can present their position regarding these investigations. The meeting of the committee will be held again today. Denied.

In a statement issued from Islamabad, Federal Secretary Cabinet Kamran Ali Afzal said that caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi were not summoned.

According to a private TV, sources say that more than 6 lakh tonnes of wheat was imported during the current government’s tenure. Wheat was imported despite having a carry-forward stock of more than 113,000 tons and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also kept ignorant about the import of wheat.

According to the sources, the import of wheat was continued under the decision of the caretaker government even in the present government. The Finance Ministry rejected the summary of import of wheat through TCP and allowed import of five lakh metric tonnes of wheat through private sector which landed at the port at Rs 93 82 paisa per kg.

According to sources, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs was directed to prioritize access to ports for imported wheat and the permit also included an option to review the summary if required.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed Kamran Ali Afzal, the head of the committee investigating the wheat scandal, to submit the final report by Monday.

On the other hand, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has also summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday over the wheat scandal. The investigation committee in the wheat scandal summoned the former caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar today.

According to sources, former Secretary Food Muhammad Asif has recorded his statement before the investigation committee on Saturday. The investigation committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is headed by Secretary Cabinet Division Kamran Ali Afzal. The committee will submit its report on Monday.
