Invitation to Shanghai Electric to switch power plants from imported coal to local coal

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif invited the Chinese company Shanghai Electric to shift domestic power plants from imported coal to Thar coal.

According to Express News, a delegation of Shanghai Electronics Group headed by Chairman Shanghai Electronics Group Wu Li met the Prime Minister in Islamabad. The Prime Minister was briefed on the various projects being run under the auspices of the Shanghai Al-Karak Group in Pakistan. Thar Coal Block 1 Power Generation Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Meng Donghai also attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s determination to further promote friendly relations and economic cooperation with China. The Prime Minister said that the friendship between Pakistan and China is deeper than the seas and higher than the Himalayas, there will be no compromise in providing security for Chinese companies operating in Pakistan and their employees.

The Prime Minister invited the Shanghai Electric Group to shift the country’s imported coal-fired power plants to local coal and further expand coal mining projects.

He said that the Government of Pakistan will provide all facilities to Chinese investors to further expand the existing projects. In the meeting, the delegation briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of various projects so far.

Shanghai Electric Group is working on Thar Coal Mine Development and 1320 MW Coal Power Project in Pakistan.

The meeting was informed that Shanghai Electric Group is one of the major Chinese companies operating in Pakistan under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project and through the projects of Shanghai Electric Group in Pakistan, foreign exchange savings of 400 million dollars are being saved annually.
