Prime Minister of Fiji jailed for one year for closing the corruption case against him

Former Prime Minister Frank Benimarama was accused of corruption in the financial affairs of the University of the South Pacific

Sleep: Former Prime Minister of Fiji, Frank Benimarama, was sentenced to one year in prison for the crime of closing the corruption case against him.

According to the World News Agency, the wife of Fiji’s former Prime Minister Frank Benimarama cried in the packed court after hearing her husband’s one-year prison sentence.

Former Prime Minister Frank Benimarama was accused of corruption in the financial affairs of the University of the South Pacific and he used his powers to block an investigation by the police chief.

The Chief of Police at that time was also a close friend of the Prime Minister, Frank Benimarama, and on his request, the Chief of Police closed the case.

It should be remembered that Frank Benimarama seized power as a result of a military coup in 2006, but won the elections in 2014 and again in 2018 and was elected as the Prime Minister.

However, in the 2022 election, 70-year-old Frank Beni Mara Ma was defeated and thrown out of power by the current Prime Minister Setuni Rabuka and his allies.
