Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of farmers’ complaints, ordered immediate purchase of wheat

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif taking notice of farmers’ complaints Ordered the federal government to immediately purchase wheat from the farmers.

The Prime Minister increased the federal government’s wheat procurement target from 1.4 lakh to 1.8 lakh metric tonnes.

Shahbaz Sharif has also directed PASCO to prioritize transparency and farmers’ convenience for wheat procurement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken this step considering the difficulties of farmers in purchasing wheat.

It should be noted that the Punjab government was supposed to start purchasing wheat from April 22. Due to the delay in purchasing wheat, farmers were forced to sell their cultivated wheat on the streets of the city.

Chairman Kisan Etihad Haseeb Anwar had demanded that the government should ensure the purchase of wheat at its fixed support price.

Haseeb Anwar said that with this demand, he will stage a dharna outside the Punjab Assembly on April 29, and will sit until the demand is fulfilled.

It should be remembered that before the start of wheat harvesting this year, the government had four million tons of wheat reserves.

In addition, during the caretaker government, 3.4 million tons of wheat worth one billion dollars was imported from abroad by the private sector, which is 36% more than the same period of the previous financial year.
