PTA’s refusal to block SIMs of non-filers
Islamabad: PTA refuses FBR to block SIMs of more than five lakh non-filers.
According to Express News, PTA has responded to FBR’s letter stating that the process of blocking SIMs of non-filers is not compatible with our system and legally we are not bound to block SIMs.
PTA has said that a large number of women and children use SIMs in the name of men, only 27% of SIMs are in the name of women in Pakistan, Income Tax Ordinance 2021 does not apply to PTA, SIMs block. Doing so will harm digitization.

The PTA has said that blocking a large number of SIMs will harm the telecom economy. Problems will arise for users.
In the letter, the PTA has advised the FBR to consider legal options other than blocking SIMs.
