The growing use of artificial intelligence in warfare

On April 1, 24, Israeli F-35 jets fired six missiles and destroyed an Iranian consulate building in Damascus, Syria. A meeting of Iranian army commanders was going on in this building.

Sixteen people including seven Iranian officers were killed in the attack. Responding to this attack, on the evening of April 13, Iran launched an airstrike in Israel. This retaliatory attack was named “Wada-i-Sadiq”.

Iranian weapons

According to the media, 185 drones, 170 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles were used in this Iranian attack. Iran was the first Shahid. 136 and Shahid. 238 drones fired towards Israel. The goal was for most of Israel’s anti-missile weapons to be spent on destroying them and its ballistic cruise missiles would then be able to reach their targets.

Shahid. 136 is a kamikaze or suicide drone that carries a 50 kg bomb. Shahid 238 is a high-speed drone. A 50 kg bomb is also loaded on it. According to experts, Iran’s attack on Israel was the largest drone attack on any country in modern military history.

“Emad-I”, “Qadr-110”, “Shahab-3B” and “Kheber Shakan” are the Iranian ballistic missiles that were fired at Israel. All these missiles can be loaded with 700 to 1000 kg bombs. It should be remembered that the Iranian forces have twenty-seven types of ballistic missiles that have a short to intermediate range. Iran used the Pawah cruise missile in the attack, which has a range of 1,650 km.

Benefits to Iran

Israel claims that ninety-nine percent of Iranian drones and missiles were destroyed in flight. Five or nine ballistic missiles hit one of its combat airbases but did not do much damage. As if the Iranian counter-attack was not effective in the sense that it could not destroy Israeli military installations. However, Iran benefited in two ways.

First, the Iranian attack was stopped mainly with the help of American and British missiles, planes and radars. Israeli-made weapons played little role in stopping this attack. The Israelis were also mainly using American-made weapons. If Israel did not have the support of the two superpowers, the United States and the United Kingdom, then the Iranian attack could have caused widespread destruction in Israeli facilities.

America, Great Britain, France, Israel, Jordan, etc. had made full preparations to stop Iranian drones and missiles. Despite this, Iranian missiles not only entered the territory of Israel, but also targeted one of its airbases. This success must have boosted the morale of Iran’s scientists and engineers. And they will more enthusiastically prepare to develop modern weapons. Iran has shown that Israel’s defenses can be breached and are not invincible.

Second, Iran retaliated at a very low cost, while Israel was hit at at least five times the cost. According to American media, an Iranian drone costs 20 to 50 thousand dollars. While an Iranian ballistic missile costs 100,000 dollars, while a cruise missile costs 2,500,000 dollars, it seems that Iran has spent between 10 and 20 million dollars by attacking Israel.

But the US-made missiles used by Israel to shoot down Iranian drones and missiles are very expensive. For example, the “Aero Missile” jointly developed by the US and Israel shot down Iranian ballistic cruise missiles. The cost of this one missile is 35 million dollars. Brigadier General Reem Aminoach, a former financial adviser to the Israeli army, told Ynet, Israel’s largest English news site: At least one billion and thirty million dollars have been spent.

A few days later, Israel also launched a missile attack on Iran, following the example of Khasiani Bili Khamba Noche. Rampage, an Israeli-made half-ton supersonic missile, was used in this attack. The target of the Israeli missile is the Iranian S, which targets enemy missiles and planes. There were 300 missiles that Russia has provided to Iran. However, the Israeli attack could not do much damage to them. The specialty of this attack is that the Israeli planes fired their missiles at Iranian military installations from a distance of 1200 kilometers without entering the Iranian airspace. As if Iran was warned that Israel is capable of attacking it from a distance.

What lessons did Pak forces learn?

The recent conflict between Israel and Iran has again revealed the fact that the role of missiles and drones will be very important in future wars. The reason is that with these weapons it is possible to target the enemy from a distance without risking the lives of our soldiers. First, its weapons should be destroyed by missiles and drones, and then the ground attack should begin.

This military strategy was first adopted by the US at the beginning of the Gulf War (1991). At that time, Iraq’s forces were the sixth largest in the world. But in just four weeks, the Americans carried out more than 100,000 airstrikes and dropped 88,50 tons of explosives, wiping out Iraqi tanks, artillery, armored vehicles, warplanes and military installations. Thus, Iraq was unable to fight and was forced to sign a cease-fire agreement.

Now there is no need for warplanes and drones and missiles have started placing bombs. They are equipped with the most sensitive devices based on artificial intelligence that can protect them from anti-missiles. Also improve their manoeuvrability while flying. Even unmanned combat aircraft are being developed, such as Turkey’s Bayraktar Kizilelma, of which two prototypes have been developed.

On the other hand, the United States and the United Kingdom are developing laser guns to destroy drones. Thus, a drone or a missile can be destroyed by spending twenty five dollars. Electrical systems are also being developed that can disable drones or missiles in mid-air by releasing electrical waves. Therefore, a great competition has arisen between the warring countries in order to make missiles and drones more effective or to destroy them easily.

Keeping in view the changes taking place in the field of warfare, Pakistan should also spend a lot of capital on R&D (research and development) of drone and missile technology. The aim is to combat the military power of the enemies by making modern weapons according to the conditions, as well as to make our defense stronger.

India has developed hypersonic (Mach 5 to 10) missiles, such as the BrahMos cruise missile. Its air-to-air missile also has a near-hypersonic (Mach 4.5) speed. But Pakistan has not been able to make such a high-speed missile. Help can be taken from China, Turkey, Iran in making these modern weapons. It is necessary to prepare it so that the balance of military power in the sub-continent of Pakistan and India is maintained.

If necessary, an institution like “RCD” should be created so that the three major and neighboring Islamic countries can jointly conduct military scientific and technological research and experiments. Nowadays, a country that is militarily powerful is heard more in world affairs.
