A solar panel made from organic molecules

The European Union has issued a grant of 3.3 million euros to the Swedish start-up Epishine, which manufactures organic (organic) solar panels.

In these solar panels, scientists have used carbon instead of silicon to transmit electricity.

Organic solar cells are lightweight, cheap, partially transparent, printable, and flexible. This solar panel can also convert indoor light into electricity, this light can be sunlight or completely artificial light.

A drawback is that organic solar panels degrade much faster than silicon panels, which means these solar panels cannot be used outdoors. However, they are ideal for operating small electronic devices such as remote controls and wireless keyboards.

Epishine CEO Anders Kotenauer said the funding will enable the startup to accelerate its joint efforts to market.

The company said it aims to make single-use batteries and cables.
