Karachi: Thousands of students are suffering due to worst mismanagement in O and A level exams

Karachi: Thousands of male and female students suffered severe agony due to the worst mismanagement in O and A level examinations in Shahr Quaid.

Compared to last year, the examination centers have been set up in unknown and narrow and difficult places where there is no parking system, traffic jams and in extreme heat, students faced difficulties in reaching the center.

Earlier every year the O and A level exams were organized in reputed private hotels of the city, the students took the exams under one roof in a calm environment in a center with parking facility but this year. Examination centers are set up in small schools and colleges in obscure, difficult locations and narrow streets.

Under Cambridge Assessment International Education, O-level and A-level exam papers are divided into two parts, half of the papers are being taken separately while the rest are being taken at separate examination centers. The victims are visible.

It is worth noting that the examination centers have been set up in a hurry, in which the convenience of the students has been completely neglected and the distance to reach the examination center has been pushed back, this is the case with the distant examination centers. That a Center for Gulshan Resident Students has been established at Korangi.

In this regard, the spokesperson of Cambridge, while talking to Express, said that the work is going on with the British Council to keep the exams standardized and transparent so that the students can take the exam in a safe environment, we are concerned with creating and checking the exam. Logistics, operations, placement of examination centers and facilities are the responsibility of the British Council.

Speaking to Express, Shah Rukh, Head of British Council South Asia Communication and Marketing, said that we have set up examination centers considering the facilities so that the students can show their better and impressive performance in the examinations.

He said that we release the schedule of examination centers in advance, we are issuing instructions to our team to control the parking complaint received so that students do not face any problem.

More than 40 thousand students are giving Cambridge exams in Karachi, about 6 thousand students are giving Cambridge exams as private candidates, in this context around 20 examination centers have been established in Karachi.

Around 100,000 students from across Pakistan are appearing for Cambridge exams in the May/June 2024 exam session, while around 15,000 students are appearing for the exams as private candidates. Around 100 exam centers have been set up in Pakistan.

Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, English and Urdu are the most popular Cambridge O-level subjects in Pakistan, while Physics, Mathematics, Business, Chemistry and Computer Science are the most popular A-level subjects in the country.

Around 800 schools across Pakistan are connected to the Cambridge system, including 200 schools in Karachi, O-level and A-level examinations under Cambridge Assessment International Education will continue till June 13.
