Punjab government’s move to not buy wheat from farmers challenged in High Court

Lahore: Punjab government’s decision not to buy wheat from farmers was challenged in the Lahore High Court.

The petition has been filed by Farhat Manzoor Chandio Advocate in which Chief Secretary Punjab and others have been made parties.

The petition states that the government is bound to buy wheat from the farmers at the official price and a policy was issued to purchase wheat at Rs 3900 per maund. Did not start purchasing wheat from farmers.

According to the petitioner, due to rains, farmers are forced to sell wheat to the mafia at cheap prices. By not buying wheat at the government price, the basic rights of farmers are being violated.

It was requested that the court order the government to purchase wheat from the farmers and issue orders to take action against the wheat mafia.
