Start of online registration of special persons for recruitment and other facilities in government departments in Punjab

Lahore: In Punjab, online registration has been started for the provision of technical education and financial support, monthly educational scholarships, interest-free loans, including ensuring the implementation of the quota allocated for the recruitment of special people in government departments. Registered persons will also be given discount on bus, train and plane tickets.

Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Treasury Punjab Sohail Shaukat Butt formally inaugurated the Digital Persons Management Information System in Lahore on Thursday, after which the process of online registration of special persons has started.

Secretary Social Welfare Iqbal Hussain and Director General Social Welfare Amna Munir also participated in the inauguration ceremony of Digital Persons Management Information System. Secretary Social Welfare Iqbal Hussain briefed the participants about the program.

Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt said that comprehensive planning and provision of facilities for the welfare of disabled people has been started.
Pre-registered persons can get their disability certificate by entering their details correctly through the special persons web portal while unregistered special persons can get their disability certificate by self-registration. Mobile application for registration of special persons can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

Sohail Shaukat Butt further informed that the digital platform is being used to determine the number of special persons. Special registration desks have also been set up in departmental offices across Punjab.

According to the data of Social Welfare Department of Punjab, a total of 338 thousand 634 disabled persons are registered in the province, 3 percent quota is reserved for special persons in Punjab, under this quota 9 thousand 460 disabled persons are working in different departments. While hundreds of posts are vacant.

According to the statistics, 7,477 of the disabled people working in government jobs are suffering from physical disabilities. 987 are blind, 853 are speech and hearing impaired and 143 are mentally handicapped.

Sayeda Imtiaz Fatima, the founder of Independent Living Home, while talking to Express News, said that disabled people need a disability certificate to get a job, but it is very difficult to get this certificate.

He said that in a city like Lahore, only Services Hospital can issue disability certificate, special people somehow reach here and it takes whole day.

Syeda Imtiaz Fatima said that all the tehsils, district headquarters hospitals of Punjab and major government hospitals should be given the authority to issue disability certificates.
