Karachi: The non-payment of salaries to the teachers in the evening program in the Federal Urdu University was the cause of compromise on the teaching standards in the university and this matter is a challenge for the new vice chancellor Prof. Have asked and received a positive response from them.

Due to non-payment of remuneration to evening program teachers in Federal Urdu University, senior teachers are not teaching in many departments and the departments are completely handed over to less experienced visiting faculty.

Most of the regular teachers in the evening program departments have withdrawn from teaching while many part-time teachers have also stopped taking classes due to non-payment and this situation has been inherited by the current vice chancellor.

“He has not been paid for one year and now he has stopped teaching in the evening, while two months’ salary and three months’ house selling are still outstanding,” a commerce teacher told Express.

On the other hand, the university administration has practically put a brake on the semester started from January, has instructed to start practical from May 1 and exams from May 15, while the evening program in the university is practically only 3 months in the current semester. The classes are over and after three months of teaching, exams are being conducted.

This situation in the university has been going on for at least two years, which is intensifying day by day, while even under the tenure of the new vice chancellor working with the old team, there has not been any significant improvement at present. It can be cautiously said that the evening program of the federally established Urdu University is being run like a government school where non-formal education is imparted.

According to sources in the finance department of the university, after the arrival of the new vice-chancellor, some teachers have been paid for two months at a time, but their outstanding amounts are for two years or more, while now the permanent employees of the university. Two months salaries of (teaching and non-teaching) staff and 3 or 4 months of house selling are still due.

A senior teacher of Urdu University Science Campus, on the condition of anonymity, told “Express” that the semester classes in the evening program should have started on December 13, but due to non-payment of fees for at least the last two years. The reason was that a large number of teachers were not ready to attend classes and instead of starting the semester on time, classes in many departments started from January.

He said that after that, despite Ramadan in March, unlike every year, the administration did not suspend the semester classes, but practically the evening classes could not be held and now, after a few days of classes in April, practical classes will be held from May 1 and May 15. The date of the exams has been given.

The said teacher said that there is no such department of the university where the course load has been completed and now students are being sent to exams with incomplete courses, these students will also graduate with a degree in the same way.

When Express contacted the new vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Bajila Khan Shinwari, who was appointed two months ago, he said that the university is in the worst financial deficit, payments to those who teach in the evening have been unpaid for two years. were not done.

The vice chancellor said how can we clear it in two months while HEC has not increased the university fund for 5 years despite the increase in salaries up to 50%. Has started.

Dr. Zabata Khan Shinwari revealed that he has requested the government of Sindh that even though this university is sponsored by the federal government, but help us to save this university, a large number of children from Sindh are studying here, so these children For the sake of releasing funds to us on the pattern of other provincial universities.

The Vice-Chancellor said that there has been a positive response to this letter from the Sindh Chief Minister and he has given an appointment next week. We have high hopes from the Sindh government.

On the other hand, another teacher of the university said regarding the new session of the evening program that business administration and computer science are two such departments where the majority of regular teachers do not teach in the evening program due to non-payment and visiting faculty are brought from outside.

He said that experienced teachers apologize when they hear that they will not be paid, but few teachers are willing to teach because teaching experience is more important than remuneration.

He said that this time also the classes of the new session could not start on time in both the mentioned fields.

In addition, “Express” contacted some students of Urdu University to find out their opinion on this matter, to which Hussain, a student of the Evening Department of Mathematics, said, “This time many other departments, including his department. Classes for the new batch could not start, due to high fees and yet when teachers do not attend classes, the talk goes outside the university.

The student said that there are no admissions in mathematics, there are few admissions in commerce department, the same is the situation in chemistry and many other departments, only classes have started in pharmacy, BBA and computer science.

It should be noted that the appointment of Vice Chancellor of Urdu University, Dr. Bayila Khan Shinwari, was made on February 26 and he joined his post on March 4 after returning home.

Regarding the non-payment of March and April salaries to the university employees, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bajila Khan Shinwari said, “The delay in salaries has been going on for the last 6 months. We have received funding from HEC and we are hopeful.” That salaries be released in the next week.

On the reports of ending the house ceiling, the vice chancellor said that these are all rumors and when the money is available, they will give the house ceiling, they are not even converting the house ceiling into house rent.
