The World Bank should align its framework with Pakistan’s reform sectors, Finance Minister

Islamabad: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb requested the Regional Vice President of the World Bank to align the Country Partnership Framework with Pakistan’s priority reform areas.

According to the Ministry of Finance, World Bank Regional Vice President for South Asia, Martin Riser, who is visiting Pakistan, met Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday at the Finance Division, in which World Bank Country Director Naji Benhasin, Finance and Economic Affairs Division. Senior officers were also present.

The Finance Minister briefed Martin Riser on the country’s macro-economic situation and the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy. He outlined the government’s priority reform areas, including increasing the tax-to-GDP ratio, cost reduction in the energy sector, SOE reforms, privatization and human capital development.

On this occasion, Martin Riser acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to economic reforms and reiterated the World Bank’s readiness to provide technical assistance and financial support to facilitate the country in achieving its development goals. could

The Finance Minister requested the Regional Vice President of the World Bank to align the Country Partnership Framework of the World Bank with the priority reform areas of the Government of Pakistan.

Accepting the request, Riser said the World Bank Group will provide the necessary support to the government in implementing the reform agenda in the energy sector, promoting exports, microfinance, building environmental resilience and social security. In the meeting, the parties reiterated their commitment to strengthen the partnership for the betterment of Pakistan’s economy and its people.
