Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed the need to focus on the development of the country’s gems and jewelery sector and said that the export of value-added products can help Pakistan earn valuable foreign exchange.

During a meeting held at the President’s House regarding the development of gems and jewelery sector in Pakistan, the President said that there is a need for better marketing and promotion of Pakistan’s gemstone products to enter the global gems and jewelery market. And foreign companies should be encouraged to invest in jewellery. This will help in creating employment opportunities for the local population.

Asif Ali Zardari also stressed the need to diversify and promote industries in the gems and jewelery sector and said that attention must be paid to training and skilling of local manpower. Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Gems and Jewelery Development Company Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry and senior government officials participated in the meeting.

The CEO of PGJDC informed the meeting about the strategic plan for the development of gems and jewelery sector and highlighted various challenges and opportunities in this regard. During the meeting with Asif Ali Zardari, discussed issues of bilateral importance.

President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed the need to further strengthen trade and economic relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, saying that Pakistan-UK relations have been strengthened by high-level contacts and public relations.

Speaking on the economic situation of the country, President Asif Ali Zardari said that the stability of the economy is the first priority, and attention will be paid to creating employment opportunities and eradicating poverty. He said that climate change is a serious challenge for Pakistan.

In the meeting, the President expressed his best wishes for the King of Great Britain Charles Swimme and Princess of Wales Catherine Middleton. Jane Marriott congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari on his assumption of office.
