Army Chief meets Turkish Chief of General Staff, discusses defense cooperation

Rawalpindi: The Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, was met by the Chief of General Staff of Turkey, General Metin Gorak, and bilateral issues, including defense cooperation and training, and the situation in the region were discussed.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), Turkish Chief of General Staff General Mateen Gorak visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) and met Army Chief General Asim Munir.

The statement said that the chiefs of the forces of the two countries discussed various topics of mutual interest and during this, measures for defense cooperation, training and promotion of regional peace and stability were also discussed.

The ISPR said the two sides acknowledged the strong people-to-people ties of the two countries and reiterated their commitment to further expand defense cooperation.

Army Chief General Asim Munir emphasized the need to enhance the existing military cooperation between their armed forces.

According to ISPR, the Turkish General appreciated the role of Pakistan Army in regional peace and stability and fighting terrorism.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Army laid a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial at GHQ, while the armed forces of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honor to the distinguished guest.
